I was looking for a perfect small camera that is easy and fun to use but also takes wonderful images and videos. I recently bought the Sony Cybershot TX7, it was a wonderful camera but i think the touchscreen feature can be an advantage and a disadvantage to it. I was very surprised with the size of the Canon SD 1400IS for being so small but still fits perfectly in my big hands. it takes amazing pictures ( i have a Nikon D80 also ) which is perfect when i’m too lazy to bring my huge DSLR camera!:) My main concern about this camera is the color, my favorite color is orange and i want something to stand out but not too much. The orange color of the camera is PERFECT! it’s not too bright but still stands out when going out with friends. I HIGHLY recommend this camera for people who is looking for a nice small camera which is easy to use and truly a pocket camera. I also would recommend this to people who owns a DSLR camera but are too lazy to carry them for a night out with friends.

During the first few weeks I got this for my wife, I felt like I made a mistake.

I’ve been shooting with a Nikon D90 DSLR for a couple of years now, and once you go in that direction, any P&S will pale in comparison. In fact I believe most P&S shooters are just a tad better than the shooter you find in your camera phone. Through recommendations, I use a Panasonic LX3 as a sidekick, which is a huge disappointment if you are shooting kids in motion. Still life and bright daylight scenery is fine, but LX3 really sucks at shooting living breathing subjects indoors.

Because she needed one that would fit in her purse, or more truthfully, one that she wouldn’t mind carrying for me in her purse on a daily basis, I picked the smallest Canon I could find at the time. And this being freshly released then, and believing the specs, I bought one.

The pictures as expected, were camera-phone like at first. But after getting to know how or when to use it after several months, the photos now look passable and really not bad for such a tiny camera that’s smaller than my iPhone.

For the size, I must say the pictures are acceptable. BUT what saves this thing from becoming a paper weight or doorstop, is the video. Why buy those one-trick pony HD videocams bricks when you can shoot wonderful HD videos with this? I think people tend to take this feature for granted, but I happen to believe VIDEO is this camera’s saving grace.

Fantastic camera with all the great basic features and amazing battery life. Only complaint and surprise was that the weight of the lens shaft is so heavy that one cannot actually set the camera on a surface to take an automated picture without the camera falling forward. Have to place another small object in front of the camera to stop it from falling over. I probably would have discovered had I played with it at a store but really choose this based on my favorite color.

I bought this as an upgrade for the 770 IS, which I bought about 2 years ago. They have improved the auto focus. The LCD now shows you what it’s focusing on with little green boxes on the LCD screen. It’s more auto than ever. The 770, you had to switch to “close-up” mode for any close-up shots. With this one, it’s all auto. Also, it’s easier to view the photos you’ve already taken with the play button. The camera is slightly smaller, and looks more stylish with the rounded corners. And I like the orange! The 770 only came in blah silver. It’s a shallow reason to like a camera, I know, but the color options are nice. As far as I can see, the picture quality is not much different than the 10 MP SD770. I’ve seen the pictures on a 60″ LCD screen, and I don’t see any difference in quality. But the extra 4 MP is an impressive status symbol none-the-less! Ha ha – my car has more horse-power, and my camera has 4 more mega pixels, so there.

I would recommend this for anyone who wants to get decent quality pictures without the hassle of carrying around a bulky camera. It’s the same size or smaller than a cell phone, and we all know cell phones take bad pictures. With this camera you can easily take it with you everywhere.

I have sworn by these little Canon cameras for work and play for the past 7-8 years but this camera is horrible, every picture is out of focus compared to my 780IS. It is too late to return it so off to the donation pile it goes, I would like to believe that I just received a bad camera but this is the 2nd one of these small wide angle lens cameras I have purchased through Amazon.com in the past 3 years and both performed below expectation. Every image was out of focus compared to my 780IS that still performs like a champ.

Don’t waste the extra dollars on the wide angle version if image quality is high on your list, stick with the Canon 780IS or equivalent or go with a different brand wide angle all together.

Most of the videos, and some of the still shots, are grossly out of focus. I loved the Canon 780IS …. Canon really fumbled the ball on this camera!

This camera has excellent image quality. 4GB memory card (purchased separately) stores hundreds of pictures and the battery is strong enough to take them too!

It’s small enough to be constantly with us. The controls are placed in decent spots and make it easy to operate.

Video is good but we don’t use it that much – pictures are more important imho.

From portability, image quality and price mixture we are very happy with this purchase.

I was looking for a new camera as my old one was outdated and I wanted something with better picture quality. A friend who swears by Canon picked this camera out for me as it was in my price range. I couldn’t be happier. Picture quality is awesome. The different picture taking features are awesome too. It’s easy to use, even if you’re a beginner like me, but lets you take pictures like you’re a professional. I love this camera and have actually had a couple of friends buy it too after using mine. Highly, highly recommend.
