Newborn Portraits

newborn portraitsIt is important to make the time to have your newborn portraits taken.  It may be so that the last nine months may have dragged on, but I promise you, the next nine months are going to fly by quickly.

Don’t miss a moment; get those newborn portraits taken right away!

Did you know there is a group of professional photographers that specialize in newborn photography?  This group of professionals will come to your home at a time that is convenient for you.  They have experience and techniques dealing with infants and are accustomed to the chaotic household environment that often accompanies a special new arrival.

Let’s face it – newborns sleep a lot.  A quality photographer knows to allow the baby to sleep for as long as possible while they are setting up their mobile portrait studio in your home.  That way, the baby will be refreshed when it is time to take the photos.  Childrens photographers are experts who specialize in young people from infancy to adulthood.  You wouldn’t think of taking your baby to an adult doctor, right?  Your newborn probably has a peditrician.  It is the same with photographers.  If you are going to hire a professional, hire a specialist.

Another reason why it is a good idea to have your newborn portraits taken in your own home is that the baby is in his or her own environment.  Yet another reason to have the portraits done in your home is if you have other children.  The other kids can go about their routine, and play until it is time for their turn.  Remember, happier kids translate into better portraits.

With that being said, it is understandable that you may not have the resources to hire a professional photographer at this time.  Don’t let that stop you from creating great photographic memories.  Your baby is growing in leaps and bounds every day.  Keep a camera at the ready always.  Just like you keep your keys in a designated spot within your home so they are easily accessible, so should it be with a digital camera.

Keep it on a shelf near the television, or next to the baby’s changing table (out of range!)  Keep the batteries charged. Get in the habit of taking at least one picture per day.  When those milestones happen, the camera will be right there to record the moment.  Experiment with different settings for your camera.  Also experiment with taking pictures of your infant from different angles, close up, and wide angle shots.  Relax, and remember some of the best newborn portraits are the ones that happen naturally, in the moment.
