    Digital cameras that use AA batteries are disappearing from the landscape, but I was fortunate to find this Sony DSC-S2100 camera that still uses the convenient, inexpensive batteries. I’m sure the lithium batteries are fine, but I like to have some extra batteries handy when shooting an event. The camera, like an earlier model Sony I have, is easy to use and well made, and I like the smaller size of the DSC-S2100. It will take movies as well, and the only thing I don’t like about the camera is the location of the switch to select pictures or movies. I sometimes select the movie setting by accident when taking the camera out of its carrying case. I’m a fan of Sony quality, and this camera is not a power guzzler, so I’m still on my first set of batteries.

    Very Nice camera, however settings are very complicated, and is not easy to take macro shots, since there is not a direct macro button, nice pictures, another issue is that even if you bring down the resolution of the pictures the photos are very big in size on the computer.

    the camera has nice features, except the quality of picture. Indoor pictures taken with the flash are extremely grainy. Outdoor pictures tend to be out of focus. Color saturation is poor. Green’s come out a washed out.

    SteadyShot is turned OFF by default. That seems strange until I tried using it. When you use it in brighter conditions, it seems to actually make the pictures worse when the light is bright enough not to need it. So it seems like you need to actively turn it on/off. Which, practically speaking, would rarely happen.

    Overall would not recommend. The picture quality is too disappointing.

    My wife and I have owned many digital cameras and find this the best one we have ever owned. Apparently it’s a new generation. It is so automatic it makes it really easy to use. It automatically detects the photo type you are taking and lets you know – scenery, cuisine, closeup, etc. The smile feature is fun. Face detection with exposure correction really works. It’s compact, boots up quickly and has little or no delay when taking a picture. The 12MB picture really captures detail. We love this camera but may buy another brand for my wife when the time comes just because I like to experiment.

    Great so far 50-75 pics taken with batteries that it came with & still going, wish zoom was better, auto works great on what ever type of photo your taking haven’t tried video yet, but its got to be better then the old camera i had. the best thing i like about it is its takes the sony card or an sd card & no rechargeable batteries just takes 2 aa batteries {for it was $49.99 for a new battery for my old 1, it lasted about 18 months}

    I absolutely love this camera!. It is very user-friendly. If you do not have any expectation more than easily taking photo with high quality, this camera will be your best.

    I don’t have a lot of experience with digital cameras, but I think this one is a winner. I borrowed an earlier model Sony last year that cost way more, and this is better. Nice little camera, good features, easy to use, and a great price.

    Note that the camera does NOT have internal speaker. Kind of annoying that sony left this out. Captures video but playback on the camera is muted. Otherwise a good camera. Smile shutter works nicely.

    I had the DSC-P92 for year. The menus are nearly the same. The picture brightness varies with pixel choice though. No touchscreen or lithium batteries – less for me to break. Small enough and light enough. Not much zoom, but high pixels (~4.5MB file for 12MP).

    I won’t get into specifics but let me quickly state the Sony DSC-S2100 is great little camera at budget price. I compared it to my sisters Nikon L20 and was amazed at how much better the performance of the Sony was in comparsion to the Nikon. The build seems durable with metal shutter lens cover as opposed to plastic. I guess the one thing I wish it had is a lower f-stop. It will only do 3.1.

    I used this camera to expose Panasonics flawed black levels
